HP's Neoview, introduced in 2007, was specifically designed to manage data in excess of one petabyte.
SAP is working to make its data warehouse scalable through such partnerships as a time when its arch competitor, Oracle, is touting its high-volume Exadata 2 warehouse built on Sun servers. SAP's deal with HP is similar to one announced in April, when SAP and Teradata said they were working to better integrate their data warehouses.
"What this is all about is data mart consolidation," said SAP executive VP Zia Yusuf, in an interview. "Through Neoview, you can combine native [SAP] data with unstructured data from other sources and then analyze the combined data," Yusuf said.
