Sprint Launches Wireless Tracking

The service is intended to help enterprises track both vehicles and people and provides features including messaging and mapping.

Sprint Tuesday said it has launched a location-based service that is aimed at helping enterprises track vehicle fleets and mobile workers.

The company said that its Sprint Precision Locator can enhance productivity by not only tracking employees and vehicles, but also adding mapping and messaging capabilities. The service, for instance, will enable enterprises to create more efficient schedules and routes, according to the company.

"As an easy and inexpensive solution to purchase and implement, businesses can immediately realize the enhanced efficiencies of tracking, directing and messaging with mobile workers," Vicki Warker, a Sprint vice president, said in a statement.

The service was announced in July by Nextel, which recently merged with Sprint. The company provided no pricing for the service.
