Productivity, Globalization Drive IT Investments

Specialty merchandisers may devote a small percentage of their annual revenue to IT, but the sector also allocates one of the largest combined budget percentages on hardware (22%), software (20%), and general systems administration (18%) of all the verticals. It's not all daily maintenance, upgrades, and system replacements, though: the industry employs a healthy mix of innovative technologies and also is strongly focused on global supply chains. The charts below outline the business, technology, and budgeting strategies of the specialty merchandising companies selected in the InformationWeek 500.
