Apple Computer began last week under pressure, as information became public that CEO Steve Jobs received 7.5 million stock options in 2001 without the required authorization of the company's board. However, Apple filed a report with the SEC indicating it would take an $84 million after-tax charge for recognizing expenses related to options grants.

A committee appointed by Apple's board examined evidence surrounding more than 42,000 options grants made on 259 dates between October 1996 and January 2003, and also examined options grants made from 1994 to 1997. The committee stated it "found no misconduct by current management." This week in San Francisco, Apple will hold its annual Macworld Expo, which Jobs uses to announce new products.

With the anticipation of new products and resolution of backdating issues, the stock ended the week up 2.8% and up 16.6% for the year. The Disruptive Technology Portfolio was down 0.1% for the week, but up 13.9% for the year.
