HP also unveiled online services, a printer, a networking switch and financing options, also for SMBs. HP is trying to tap its vast tech and service portfolio for bundles that can grab a bigger share of IT spending among the 7.9 million SMBs in the United States.
New storage products included the StorageWorks DAT 320 Tape Drive, the StorageWorks D2D backup system and the LeftHand P4000 storage area network product. HP also introduced bundles of hardware and software for SMBs ready to introduce virtualization in their IT environments. The bundles are built on ProLiant, StorageWorks and ProCurve products, along with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2.
HP's new printer for SMBs is the LaserJet P2055d, which sells for $299. The vendor also introduced a couple of low-power LCD monitors, the Compaq LE1711 and Compaq LE1911.
HP also introduced online services where users can communicate with business contacts and employees, and for IT workers to access, view and control other computers online to troubleshoot and correct problems.
Also, HP offers Huddle.net, which provides collaboration, project management and document sharing. The company provides a 30-day trial for 20 GB of storage and 20 workstations.
The company provides more than $1,000 in software and services and up to $2,000 in rebates for SMBs making HP hardware purchases.
HP and other tech vendors are targeting SMBs with tailored product bundles to tap into small and medium-sized businesses, which IDC says will spend more on IT than larger corporations overall as the tech market recovers from the economic downturn.
As a result, the SMB market could provide a needed financial boost to HP and others. HP reported profits fell 19% and revenue dropped 2% in the quarter ended July 31. However, the company said its business was stabilizing and it expected market conditions to improve.
