Major League Baseball on Friday planned to show the Philadelphia Phillies World Series victory parade live on the Internet.

The parade, which kicked off around noon, was expected to snake through the city's downtown core to the sports complex in South Philadelphia. Hundreds of thousands of Phillies fans were expected to watch the parade live, according to news reports.

After the parade, players were scheduled to attend a rally at Citizens Bank Park and also put in an appearance at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the National Football League's Philadelphia Eagles.

The online parade coverage was just one of numerous Phillies-related Webcasts that MLB planned to air on Friday on MLB.com. Also included in the Web coverage are rebroadcasts of all four Phillies World Series victories. "It is what many Phillies fans want, what they expect, and what they are going to get all day at MLB.com," said a report by the league's news service.

The league is using Microsoft's Silverlight multimedia display technology to broadcast the events online. The Phillies beat the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 on Monday following a 46-hour rain delay to clinch only the second World Series title in the team's history.

Beyond Webcasts, Major League Baseball is making highlights of the Phillies 2008 and 1980 World Series victories available as a download from the MLB.com showcase on Apple's iTunes service.

"The Major League Baseball Season is now completed, and already we're starving and hungry. That is in our nature as fans. Now it is feeding time again," the league's news service said in its report.
