One of my favorite covers of InformationWeek was the Aug. 15 issue from last year. The story was about Web users being ready for more video content, and the cover showed an image of the space shuttle taking off on the NASA Web site, of Bono singing at the Live 8 concert on AOL, and of a Mets-Padres game on MLB.com. Just a half-year later, video is soaring like that shuttle. Apple has sold more than 8 million videos for download and serves up some 40 TV shows and 3,000 music videos after only a few months of making them available.

Today you can watch many of your favorite sporting events online. Google, Yahoo, and other portals have their own video services and exclusive shows. Shortly before that cover story ran, we launched "The News Show," a daily Web video show that has gathered a large audience thanks to the wit, charm, and general wackiness of anchor John Soat and a team of correspondents who are on the beat--and a bit off-beat at times! It has been a blast to be a part of it.

In fact, starting this week, I'm going to be taking on a new role with CMP Media's Web organization that's focused on expanding streaming media products. I'll retain a strong connection to the InformationWeek community, as much of the streaming content will be based on things that the magazine's audience and IT vendors are doing. So I look forward to continuing a dialogue with many of you and, of course, with my colleagues here at InformationWeek. All of us--especially Rob Preston, who will become editor-in-chief--are eager to get your feedback on what we're doing in print, video, and all aspects of our business.
