Nokia on Tuesday partnered with Google to integrate its search engine into the Nokia Search application. The Google search offering on Nokia's devices will eventually become available to mobile users in over 100 countries.
By integrating Google's search engine into its search application, Nokia will provide users with a Web experience they're used to on the desktop, according to the company. Users will be able to access the app directly from a phone's active standby screen with one click instead of navigating through various menus.
"This integration allows our consumers the ability to use the innovative search technologies, which have made Google almost synonymous with Internet search," said Ilkka Raiskinen, VP of software and services at Nokia, in a statement.
Google search was previously only available on Nokia's Internet tablets, but will now be introduced on the Nokia N96, N78, 6210 Navigator, and 6220 classic mobile phones in the second and third quarter of this year. All four devices were launched earlier this week at the Mobile World Congress conference in Barcelona.
The N96 is a multimedia phone intended for video and TV. The N78 is also a multimedia phone that comes with music, navigation, and photo capabilities. The 6220 classic is a full-featured phone with a 5-megapixel camera, assisted GPS, and the ability to tag, edit, and share videos online. The 6210 Navigator is Nokia's first GPS-enabled mobile phone with an integrated compass for pedestrian navigation.
Nokia said it will extend Google search to other Nokia devices in the future, but didn't specify when.
