AT&T is trying to convince small businesses that netbooks aren't just for consumers, and it is offering multiple mini-notebooks with integrated 3G modems.

The telecom giant is partnering with CDW to offer businesses netbooks from Acer and Hewlett-Packard that can utilize AT&T's mobile broadband network. Businesses can get the netbooks for as low as $199 by signing up for a two-year mobile data contract. The carrier is also offering Pansonic's Toughbook line of ruggedized laptops with embedded 3G modems.

The integrated modems can access 3G networks in more than 80 countries, although roaming fees may apply. Additionally, these embedded netbooks get access to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi hotspots at locations like McDonald's restaurants, Four Seasons hotels, and other public venues.

"With small businesses increasingly using technology to keep costs down and improve productivity, these devices are becoming more popular all the time," said Dan Walsh, senior VP of AT&T's business segment, in a statement. "Our goal is to offer a lineup of devices with superior connectivity that enables small businesses to fully access the Internet and company information 24/7, providing the best 'virtual office' experience."

The move is another sign that mobile operators are placing increased efforts on selling mobile data packages, as it can provide a strong revenue stream as revenue declines from traditional voice services. AT&T is offering consumers multiple subsidized netbook packages for users who sign up for mobile broadband or home DSL connections.

AT&T isn't the only carrier looking to tap into the netbook momentum, as Verizon Wireless will be offering a discounted HP Mini for users who sign up for mobile data.
