E-Ten reportedly showcased the Glofiish M800 at a launch event held in the U.K. on Thursday. The smartphone packs a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi, 3.5G -- an upgrade to the 3G mobile telephony protocol that increases network capacity -- and a VGA screen for high-quality resolution. It also supports quadband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and triband UMTS/HSDPA cellular technologies.
Other features include Bluetooth, a 2-megapixel camera, and a built-in GPS receiver. The Glofiish M800 doesn't offer a lot of storage space, only 64 Mbytes of RAM. But it does feature a microSD memory card slot, so memory can be expanded.
The Glofiish M800 runs Microsoft's most recent mobile operating system, Windows Mobile 6, which comes with "direct push" technology for automatic delivery of e-mail from Exchange Servers and a full Microsoft Office suite for viewing, editing, and creating documents on the go.
E-Ten's new smartphone is very similar to HTC's TyTN II, which is also based on Windows Mobile 6, and comes with 3.5G technology, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, built-in GPS, and a slightly better quality 3-megapixel camera.
HTC also this week unveiled its Touch Cruise smartphone with GPS for personal navigation and 3G for high-speed Internet access. The smartphone is a new addition to HTC's Touch product line, which includes the touch screen-only Touch and the Touch Dual with a combined touch screen and keypad.
News of the Glofiish M800 comes a week after E-Ten introduced another Glofiish smartphone, the X600, which the phone maker said is its smallest device to date.
