The new mobile site, m.tivo.com, lets Series 2 and Series 3 DVR owners schedule recordings from any Internet-enabled cell phone. The site has been optimized for the smaller screen, which should make navigating though shows and setting recording schedules easier.
Non-TiVo users can visit the site to browse, search, and discover television shows, TiVo said. The site will have many of the same characteristics of the set-top box, including "Most Popular," a daily recommendation, and the ability to search by keywords and actors. TiVo's mobile site is in beta, but it will be rolled out to the masses over time.
This is just the latest move by TiVo to extend its presence beyond the living room. In the mobile space, the company is working on a dedicated application that will let BlackBerry users control their boxes wirelessly, as well as bring television content to the handset. TiVo has also struck deals with the likes of Best Buy, Amazon.com, Netflix, and even Domino's Pizza.
