In one of the most refreshing online wastes of time since the birth of the Web, the Rocklopedia Fakebandica (vgg.com/tp/tp_080700_fakeband.html) offers hours of fun tripping down memory lane, perusing musicians like Johnny Fontaine and Jackie Rogers Jr. But all these artists are fake--concoctions for film and TV.


The Monkees

The Monkees were a made-for-TV band.

The site takes a straightforward biographical approach that nonetheless strikes a nostalgic chord. It's part of a site produced by the Van Gogh-Goghs, an improv comedy group, so the emphasis is on humor, not accuracy.

But in a site devoted to bands that never existed, does it really matter if a few of the facts might be wrong?
