In a deal valued at approximately $26 million, object database vendors Versant Corp. and Poet Holdings Inc. are merging. Versant says Poet's Fast Objects database, which targets embedded applications, complements its VDS object database, which is designed for large-scale applications. The new company will initially have annual sales of about $30 million. The merger has been approved by both companies' boards but requires shareholder and Securities and Exchange Commission approval.
