Or do they? Cisco Systems' new Ethernet LAN switches work with copper wiring, so businesses needn't install costly fiber throughout a building. The Cisco Catalyst 2950 switches transmit Ethernet traffic from 5 Mbps to 15 Mbps up to 5,000 feet. Nordstrom Inc. is deploying the LANs at one-third the cost of rewiring and deploying traditional switches.
