Vodafone To Offer YouTube On Mobile Phones

The video site will provide a daily selection on Vodafone Live and let users upload their own content.

Vodafone on Friday said it has signed an agreement with YouTube in which Vodafone would offer its mobile-phone subscribers in Europe access to the popular online video service. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Based in the United Kingdom, Vodafone said in a statement that subscribers in selected markets would be able to access a version of YouTube directly from the company's mobile portal, called Vodafone Live. As part of the service, YouTube would provide a daily selection of videos, and users would be able to forward video links to others and upload their own content via a mobile phone with a video camera.

The companies plan to work together in enhancing the service over the coming months.

YouTube at the end of last summer was the third largest video site in the United States, based on the number of unique visitors watching video, according to ComScore Networks. More than one in five of every person watching video on the Web visited YouTube.
