EMC Offers Email Compliance App

SourceOne Email Supervisor is designed to help companies meet legal compliance requirements for electronic documents.

EMC has introduced software for monitoring inbound and outbound email and instant messages for compliance with corporate policies and government regulations.

The SourceOne Email Supervisor, unveiled Monday, marks an expansion of EMC's portfolio of information governance technology. SourceOne is a family of modular, integrated products for policy-based information management.

The latest product enables companies to sample indexed messages from the archive, present them for supervisory review, and save evidence of review actions. The capabilities are designed to help organizations meet legal compliance requirements. For example, U.S. brokerage firms and securities dealers are bound to abide by rules set by the National Association of Securities Dealers.

For organizations without strict legal requirements, an automated information governance product like Email Supervisor can help enforce policies to prevent risky, unethical, or illegal communications. For example, Email Supervisor can help prevent the improper transmission of confidential financial and human resources records,EMC said.

The capabilities of Email Supervisor, a complementary product to EMC's SourceOne Email Management, include flexibility in defining and customizing business policies and the ability for supervisors to create and manage review groups.

In addition, the product provides easy navigation to highlighted text in the body of messages and attachments, and delivers proof of compliance with reports that meet government requirements, such as those from the NASD.

"With SourceOne Email Supervisor, customers can extend compliance and information governance throughout the enterprise without imposing costly and time-consuming processes," said Jeff Bettencourt, VP and general manager of Information Governance Product Group, Content Management and Archiving Division at EMC.

EMC has been boosting its information governance offerings for some time. In January, the company announced plans to acquire Archer Technologies. The company's technology is expected to bring stronger policy management capabilities to EMC's RSA security portfolio.
