Lenovo Group Ltd. on Monday introduced its first widescreen ThinkPad notebook computer, which comes with built-in Verizon wireless broadband access technology.

The ThinkPad Z-Series is designed for mobile and small-business users who rely on one computer for both work and life demands, the company said. In addition to the traditional black ThinkPad design, the new Z-Series will be available in a brushed titanium cover.

The first Z-Series notebooks, the Z60m, has a 15.4-inch widescreen display that offers 30% more space than a 15-inch XGA screen, is 1.4 inches thick, and weighs 6.6 pounds. The Z60t comes with a 14-inch widescreen display, offering more than 25% more data space than a 14-inch VGA screen; is 1.1 inches thick; and weighs 4.2 pounds.

The two notebooks are Lenovo's first to integrate a high-speed Evolution Data Optimized wireless wide area network antenna for use with Verizon Wireless Broadband Access. The built-in antenna will help avoid many of the pitfalls associated with PC cards, including hardware incompatibility and damage to fragile antennas protruding from the computer, the company said. Dell also said Monday that it would offer notebook computers with built-in Verizon Wireless Broadband Access technology.

The Lenovo computers are available now, with pricing for the Z60m starting at $799 and the Z60t at $1,099.
