The company said its effort will include push-to-talk services over wireless LANs. Motorola provides push-to-talk capabilities over an iDEN network for Sprint Nextel, and it's upgrading those capabilities. The innovative feature offered by Nextel over the iDEN network is a key reason why Nextel grew rapidly in the early part of the current decade. Nextel was acquired by Sprint in 2005.
"TEAM solutions will provide security and management as well as a common architecture that will interoperate with an organization's existing voice and IT infrastructure such as PBXs, wired and wireless LANS, and two-way radios," Motorola said in a statement. Motorola said the ability to interoperate with existing technology will help businesses extend their current communications capabilities to a new set of workers.
The new approach will help organizations achieve true interoperability "from the corner office to the shop floor [and at] the loading dock and on the road," said Imran Akbar, VP and general manager of converged enterprise communications in Motorola's enterprise mobility business.
In its next generation of voice mobility products that are aimed at enterprises, Motorola is drawing on its support centers, which provide 24x7 service. The support and repair offerings range from the company's Service from the Start with Comprehensive Coverage to Advance Exchange to On Site System Support.
Motorola said at VoiceCon that it will demo seamless extensions of voice services from enterprise wireless LAN to wireless networks.
