The films, which include "X-Men The Last Stand" and "The Omen;" and TV shows, such as episodes from "24" and "Prison Break," would be offered first on the Direct2Drive site in October, with additional Web sites, including MySpace.com, offering the content later. Twentieth Century and FIM are owned by News Corp.
Movies and TV shows downloaded from Direct2Drive can be played on up to two PCs and one portable device per PC. Each new feature film is expected to cost $20, with TV episodes selling for $2 each. The films and video can be played on devices supporting the Microsoft Windows Media platform.
Apple Computer offers Twentieth Century content through its iTunes store. The films and video can be played on Apple's popular iPod player, which accounts for more than two thirds of the market for portable media players.
