The BlackArmor NAS 110 storage server has an improved user, available for other BlackArmor models through a firmware update on Segate's Web site. The server also supports "quick-start features" in the latest device, for viewing or mapping shared volumes to a computer or for backing up the PC from which a person is working.
The BlackArmor 110 has software for full system recovery of a PC's operating system, programs and settings in the event of a system crash or failure. The device also includes event notification to help manage drive errors or disruption.
The new product is available through Seagate or retailers and has a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $230 for 1 TB of storage and $350 for 2 TB. The BlackArmor 110 is the fourth member of the product line.
Seagate in March announced plans to expand the BlackArmor brand of disk drives to include a broad portfolio of small-business storage products, including network-attached storage and direct-attached storage for workstations and portable devices.
Introduced last year, the brand started as a portable drive with disk encryption. The new line is tailored for small offices with up to 50 PCs or Macs, as well as self-employed professionals, such as financial consultants and accountants looking to securely store, share, and back up client information. Medical offices looking for storage for patient records are another target market.
