Quote of the day:
"Honest criticism is hard to take, particularly from a relative,
a friend, an acquaintance, or a stranger." -- Franklin P. Jones
Last week those of us who opine in this space each day reached
something of an internal milestone: our 100th daily news podcast.
That's 20 weeks' worth of audio versions of this newsletter (all
of which are available here).
It's been a fun and interesting ride so far, as we've adapted
this core InformationWeek product to the latest medium for
information presentation and, we hope, met the needs of an
increasingly mobile and time-crunched audience.
At the same time, we're continuing to build an archive of podcasts on other topics and issues that our
reporting staff considers pressing to readers. Some recent topics
include digital films and entertainment, Oracle's Fusion and
open-source initiatives, adware, and an exclusive
InformationWeek interview with Bill Gates.
Having built this library of audio content, I'd like to solicit
your feedback on our podcasts. Are you using them? Do they have
the right content you're looking for? Is the length (typically
shorter than 10 minutes) right for you? When and how do you
listen to them?
I'd welcome E-mails or comments at my blog entry. I'd also ask you to complete our poll
and tell us what material is most valuable or appealing to you in
a podcast format.

4. Grab Bag: From Microsoft To The Space Station
Charles Simonyi created some of the most widely used computer
software programs on Earth. Now he's ready to take on the next
frontier: space. Formerly a top researcher at Microsoft and
co-founder of Intentional Software in Bellevue, Wash., Simonyi
has booked a seat aboard a Russian rocket for a flight to the

6. Voice Of Authority: Offshore Outsourcing
As Congress considers a massive expansion of the H-1B visa worker
program, opponents of the plan should consider this: Failure by
federal lawmakers to allow more skilled IT workers into the
country will result in more U.S. corporations simply outsourcing
their computer work to India or some other offshore locale where
skilled help is plentiful and cheap. Is that what you really want?
