The National Retail Federation's "Big Show" in New York highlighted scores of cutting-edge retail technologies, from mobile devices and digital signage to point-of-sale systems and store-management applications. Disney's POS mobile device is WIFI-connected Apple iTouch iPods docked with Linea-Pro "sleds" from Infinite Peripherals. The sled houses a credit card/loyalty card reader a barcode scanner and a reserve battery that powers the sled and the iTouch all day (an IPhone version is coming). Portable receipt printers sync via Bluetooth. Employees can handle the complete transaction by credit card or just scan the merchandise and present a barcoded receipt to customers so they can quickly pay by cash (or credit card if they don't want to swipe on a mobile device) at a conventional register.
