Software speech specialist Nuance Communications announced Monday that it will acquire Viecore in a move to improve its end-to-end speech solutions and systems integration offerings for enterprise customers.

The acquisition is the third this month for Nuance, which has built much of its speech technology through acquisitions. Viecore has focused its business on deploying contact center solutions for large enterprises, particularly in vertical markets involving financial services, telecommunications, health care, utilities, and government operations. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

"The growing acceptance of speech solutions in contact centers has resulted in accelerating network speech sales where growth exceeded 25% in the most recent quarter," said Wes Hayden, president of Nuance's Enterprise division, in a statement. "The demand for larger, more comprehensive enterprise speech solutions requires deeper and broader consulting and implementation services."

Nuance said the acquisition will enable it to broaden its range of contact center offerings including speech, Touch-Tone, computer telephony integration, desktop, and reporting systems in addition to systems integration. Viecore brings a long list of prominent customers to the merger -- Aetna, AIG, Bank of America, Delta, DHL, GE, Hertz, Horizon BCBS, National Grid, Prudential, Sears, Wellpoint, and Wells Fargo.

Last week, Nuance acquired Vocada, a provider of test results management used, for instance, in hospital diagnostic departments. The Vocada products are used with Nuance's Dictaphone Healthcare products and help hospitals and their staffs avoid risks associated with delays involving patient findings.

In another medical-oriented acquisition carried out by Nuance early this month, the firm acquired speed and imaging provider Commissure, which develops products that assist in the interpretation and delivery of diagnostic imaging examinations for radiology departments.
