In an upgrade over Business Productivity Online Suite (BPOS), Office 365 Professional and Small Business Edition (for up to 50 users), as well as second-tier (E2) and higher enterprise subscriptions, include Office Web Apps. These Web-based clients look much like Office thick clients, though with fewer bells and whistles. The Outlook Web app shown at left has Outlook's familiar combination of mail, calendar, contacts, and tasks, arrayed vertically along the left side of the interface. Right click an email and you're presented with mostly the same options presented by the Outlook rich client: Reply, Reply All, Forward as Attachment, Mark As Read, and so on. The Gmail interface shown at right includes mail, contacts, and tasks, but Google Calendar is a separate application selected from a tab at the top of the interface. Right click an email and you get Back, Forward, Reload Frame, and other browser options rather than application options. Google Apps Sync lets you use Outlook in combination with Gmail servers. But where web apps and the overall user experience is concerned, familiar user experience is a key emphasis for Microsoft.
