Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote aren't really a part of Office 365 (unless you take advantage of a related software subscription offer), but Microsoft makes a point of playing up integration (as shown in the Team Site interface, left. If the Office Web apps can't handle the level of editing and formatting you need, you can "Open in Word," "Open In Excel," or "Open in PowerPoint." Google execs acknowledge Google Docs won't displace Office uses calling for rich document formatting used by publishing departments or complex Excel macros used by finance departments, but such cases represent a minority, not a majority of the needs, they said. Google Docs can open and handle minor editing of Office docs, but until full HTML 5 support arrives (in the Google Chrome Browser later this summer and other browsers in future months), Docs and other Google Apps won't be usable in offline mode.
