Google certainly covers instant messaging and presence awareness. Yet with Lync Online, Microsoft has gone beyond Office Communicator to create a pervasive IM, presence, calling, online meetings, and videoconferencing experience that cuts across Office 365 services and, indeed, other Microsoft applications, like Dynamics CRM. It's social glue for far-flung organizations, and Google doesn't match what's offered in multiparty online meeting and videoconferencing capabilities.
