Internet Security Systems Inc. is developing security appliances that will provide a stateful packet filter firewall that verifies incoming and outgoing packets, VPN gateway, Layer 7 application filters, denial-of-service protection, gateway antivirus, and spam filtering by year's end. The first of its line of Proventia network appliances provides intrusion-prevention capabilities based on the company's RealSecure protection engine. Priced at $9,995, it offers a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 200 Mbps for one network segment. Next up: appliances that protect four network segments, priced at up to $52,995.
