Slideshow: CES 2011: Aliens, Prime Rib And A Digital Experience

01/06/2011 I was greeted by an alien at the Digital Experience event here in Las Vegas. And things only got better from there. This event, not aligned with CES but nestled nearby in Caesar's Palace, is for journalists. And the organizers spared no expense on the eats and fancy multicolored martinis. As way too many reporters and bloggers imho wasted their time guzzling vodka and pounding prime rib, my team and I checked out some impressive gear and software. The video for these products will be on YouTube's Techweb channel and site, but check out this slideshow for a quick lowdown on what my little team (video guy Matt Conner and photographer Nevin Berger and me) thought was intriguing, important or just plain cool to look at.

Nike+SportWatch GPS

We arrived at the show just minutes after Nike unveiled its new Nike + Sportwatch GPS. Sleeker than your average high-end sportwatch but priced about the same, it'll come out April 1, the company said.

The unit is targeted primarily at runners. Its GPS works in tandem with the Nike+Sensor in running shoes to provide great data tracking during runs.

The tap interface is seriously simple -- just tap for the time, the distance you ran and to access other functions. You can tap the display to mark laps or to activate the backlight. You get automatic reminders urging you to run if it's been awhile -- and "attaboy" messages that award you for making personal milestones, like a fastest mile or a longest run.

The watch's USB port lets you plug it in to your system and synch it up with the nikeplus.com website, so you can sync data, find new routes, map runs, get tips from coaches and even brag with your friends about how far you're running. Sweet.
