Pink Slips Handed Out To Dozens At Meta Group

Some analysts were laid off last week in preparation for a merger with Gartner.

Dozens of analysts with the IT research and consulting firm Meta Group were laid off last week in preparation for a merger with Gartner, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Meta had approximately 250 analysts and consultants, a Gartner spokesman says, but he wouldn't confirm the number of analysts retained or the number who received pink slips.

The majority of the analysts retained were from the European operations, sources say, noting that Gartner's goal is to bolster its presence in Europe.

During Gartner's earnings call last month, the company said it had determined its client base overlapped with Meta by about 50%.

Meta said Friday that its stockholders approved the terms and conditions of the proposed merger. The deal is expected to close in April.
