I love the outdoors and try to combine some hiking with travel for business or pleasure. This one was take in the Columbia River Gorge during a business trip to a standards meeting in Portland.

Break From Technology
Every year I take a break from technology, and all those colleagues and questions, by heading into the mountain ranges of the northeast. On the Appalachian Trail there's no network, no e-mail, and no cell phone reception (for the most part). It's just you, maybe a friend or two, and whatever you can carry on your back.

The Sentry
My son Andrew, who lives in England, is an avid mountain climber and photographer. He was hiking at 10,000 feet in Chamanoix. The "sentry" approached his tent, then he followed him 200 meters and took this photo.

Life After IT
"After retiring from a 38 year career in IT, I came across an opportunity to become a substitute locomotive engineer for a local switching railroad. I only run the train once or twice a month, but I enjoy this much more than I did the IT job."
Bruce Butler, Otis Orchards, WA.
