Toromont Industries/InformationWeek Live RFP

IONA Technologies Inc.

Toromont Industries Ltd. would like to enhance and improve the way it does business with its CAT dealership customers. The goals are to provide customers with better access to sales and service information and to give customers the ability to update information and place orders over the Internet.

IONA Technologies Inc. is uniquely qualified to deliver to Toromont a framework on which to build a Web-based Customer Service Application based upon IONA's best of breed products while leveraging Toromont's existing legacy systems.

IONA iPortal Suite is the industry's first multiplatform suite of products that addresses the problems in developing, deploying and managing a specific class of E-business applications commonly referred to as enterprise portals. IONA iPortal Suite features a new architecture that tightly integrates four separate products: IONA iPortal Application Server, IONA iPortal Integration Server, IONA iPortal Server, and Orbix 2000. IONA iPortal Suite unifies the members of an E-business project team and allows them to easily deploy and manage an enterprise portal that integrates with existing enterprise applications.

Why IONA?
  • IONA's IONA iPortal Suite, a collection of server products designed to support large-scale, dynamic enterprise portals based on Internet standards (including XML) and Java with a CORBA foundation.
  • IONA's continued leadership of the CORBA market and commitment to provide advanced CORBA features, as well as support for Enterprise Portal development and other new uses of CORBA technology.
  • IONA's commitment to allow integration of the major technology platforms used in enterprise portals -- Internet protocols, Sun's J2EE, Microsoft's Windows DNA 2000, and CORBA.
  • IONA's expertise in large-scale distributed architectures that integrate and extend enterprise resources and Internet resources.
  • IONA's dynamic component-based approach to developing and maintaining Enterprise Portals.
  • IONA's size and critical mass, which enables the company to support enterprise deployments over time.

Additionally, with the recent acquisition of Watershed Technologies, IONA has further enhanced its overall ability to deliver an Enterprise Portal to global companies that want to develop their business-to-business presence. Watershed's product offerings enhance IONA's iPortal Server component of the iPortal Suite by delivering management capabilities for XML, SOAP, Enterprise Java Beans, business-to-business interaction capabilities, portal and GUI frameworks for content and presentation development, and vertical market portal templates.
