Preparing For Worst-Case Scenarios
As the Feb. 1 tragedy in Egypt shows, unruly behavior at sporting events can quickly spiral out of control, particularly when security staffs are caught off guard. The Sport Evac Training System is a simulation and training tool that helps authorities maintain order in the event of fan violence, terrorist attacks, natural disasters, accidents, and other dangers.
Developed by the University of Southern Mississippi's National Center for Spectator Sports Safety, through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Sport Evac is a computer-based planning, visualization, and simulation support tool that provides what-if training scenarios, as well as a variety of other emergency-planning tools.
