Pentaho's Open Source BI Suite Achieves Record Downloads

55,000 downloads in June support claim to be world's most popular open source BI suite.

Pentaho Corp. announced July 11 that its core open source BI platform and related projects hit a cumulative monthly download record of more than 55,000 in June. This rapid market uptake follows a series of significant second-quarter achievements for Pentaho and its Open BI Suite.

As recorded on and, Pentaho's project downloads totaled more than 55,000 in the month of June. This represents the total downloads including Pentaho's core BI platform project, as well as Pentaho's Mondrian OLAP project, JFreeReport reporting project, and Kettle data integration project. Each of these projects is productized by Pentaho as the Pentaho BI Platform, Pentaho Analysis Services, Pentaho Reporting, and Pentaho Data Integration, respectively. These projects are delivered modularly to address the needs of users who, for example, want only reporting or data integration, as well as those looking for a complete, integrated open source BI Suite.

The brisk download activity in June reflects momentum generated over the previous three months with the announcement of the Pentaho Partner Program, the company's appearance on the Red Herring 100 North America winner's list, an award granted to a Pentaho-based application built by a customer, and several new Pentaho product announcements.

In April, Pentaho announced the Pentaho Partner Program and added more than a dozen partners worldwide who are delivering solutions on the Pentaho platform or providing services and expertise to apply Pentaho's BI capabilities to the diverse business challenges of different industries. The Pentaho Partner Program continues to expand and functions as an important resource for Pentaho clients seeking maximum value from their Pentaho deployments.

In May, Pentaho was named to Red Herring Magazine's list of 100 privately held companies in North America that play a leading role in innovating in the technology business.

In June, a Pentaho-based application built by Cendant company Galileo was named the winner of the inaugural JBoss Innovation Award in the Portal category. The application, known as, is a portal-based, BI-enabled extranet with a MySQL database that is designed to improve the user experience for thousands of travel agents around the world, reduce transaction and reporting time, and reduce overall deployment and maintenance costs.

Over the same three months, Pentaho released Pentaho Report Designer, a graphical report design environment that simplifies and streamlines the creation of Pentaho reports, and Pentaho Spreadsheet Services, which brings the power of Pentaho's open source OLAP capabilities directly to Microsoft Excel users. In addition, Pentaho released Pentaho Data Integration 2.3, and announced additional OLAP administration features that will be delivered later this summer.

"It's great to see our projects gain such popularity and it tells us that we're doing the right things on the product, community, customer, and partner fronts," said Richard Daley, CEO of Pentaho. "We're having fun and look forward to stepping up the pace."
