Windows 8 boots faster than Windows 7, particularly on systems with solid state drives, Microsoft says. That's welcome news, as instant-on capabilities of mobile devices have altered users' expectations of how fast a PC should boot. Microsoft was able to shorten startup to mere seconds, as seen in this video demo on its Building Windows 8 blog, by designing a hybrid-boot feature that combines traditional shutdown and hibernate modes.
