CSC Launches Web-Hosting Services

Information technology consulting firm Computer Sciences Corp. today disclosed plans to offer a package of Web-hosting services to midsize companies and E-business startups.

CSC says it will provide security, high-speed network access, and combined management and user support on Unix and NT platforms. The company will host extranets, enterprise resource applications from SAP and PeopleSoft Inc., customer-relationship management applications from Siebel Systems Inc., and proprietary systems for the financial and health-care industries, a CSC spokesman says.

CSC says its experience with security will set it apart from competing services. "CSC clients are asking for greater levels of security for their Web-enabled business systems in light of recent events," the spokesman says, referring to the denial-of-service attacks last month on popular sites such as Yahoo, eBay, and Charles Schwab.

The company said it will market its hosting services to existing and prospective clients. Pricing for the service has not been determined.
