Re: Data Centers Edge Toward Innovation
I took a look at the full digest, and it was very much worth the five seconds it took to click through to the download. I love the quick blog format as much as the next guy, but it lacks some of the depth (not to mention the numbers to back it up) of the years of magazines and white papers gone by. I'm happy to see you guys putting the effort into putting them out, and I haven't regretted reading one yet. Basing them on surveys is the way to go as well, I think - talk is cheap, and it doesn't count for much unless it ties back into a real-scenario that happened at a real company.
To that end, though, I have some concern aboud extrapolating too much from selective data, yearly trends, and anecdotal evidence. What I mean is this - just because X percent of respondents answered that budgets are shrinking doesn't mean we have to make a conclusion on how that impacts cloud spending (just an example). One source could say that it will cause less cloud spending because cloud is more expensive... but someone else could say that it will cause more cloud spending because cloud is less expensive. There is a spin/subjectivity factor, and some things are better off being decided by IT shops on a case-by-case basis. In any case, this is very useful info to have. Thanks, Greg!
