....or perhaps breaking bad and the walking dead for BYOD - or maybe that's pusing the envelope too far. TV shows aside, I've also seen IT leaders outlaw terms and mandating business language to support initaitive and programs like ITIL, DevOps, agile.....

I've spoken to CIOs who have experienced the same problem in unveiling a new social business platform to employees. Buzzwords may sound flashy -- but they can also be intimidating. Using every day language -- and more importantly, like you said, clarifying how this will make their job easier/better/more productive -- is really the most important thing.

Yep, I still wake up in a cold sweat thinking about that one, but it was one of the best lessons I ever learnt. These days before I present anything tech related, I use what I call the "so what" factor -- so what does this mean to your business, your customer, yoiur costs/profitability.

You learned a hard but vital lesson at the tire maker. Fancy language is meaningless. If you can't clearly explain how a technology will improve the business then you got nuthin'.

IT Termification
I love the TV show example. ITIL is a term that puts people to sleep. Airline crashes do not put people to sleep. Can you explain your IT talent war using Game of Thrones?
