Welcome To Our E2 Community

We're delighted to welcome our beloved E2 community as we integrate with our colleagues and the community members at InformationWeek.

If you're joining us here from EnterpriseEfficiency.com, let me extend a hearty welcome to our new home, InformationWeek's IT Strategy community. If you're with us because you're a longtime InformationWeek reader, we're thrilled to engage with you.

I'm Susan Nunziata, most recently director of editorial for EnterpriseEfficiency.com, one of the longest-running community sites owned by UBM Tech, InformationWeek's parent company. Joining me now on InformationWeek are my former E2 editorial colleagues Curtis Franklin and David Wagner.

We're joining forces with the accomplished InformationWeek editors and writers you've come to know and value. We look forward to engaging with all of you in the InformationWeek community, including the news writers and commentators you see here with us today on the IT Strategy page.

Together, we'll bring you more of the kinds of unique IT Strategy coverage and perspectives you've come to value on InformationWeek. We'll also join you on the comment boards to share our insights and trade stories about our experiences.

Over the next few weeks, we'll feature the CIOs, CTOs, and other IT leaders who've written and participated on EnterpriseEfficiency.com, including David Fletcher, CTO of the State of Utah; Larry Bonfante, founder of CIO Bench Coach; Andrew Froehlich, network engineer and IT consultant; and Brien Posey, former CIO. But that's not all. The InformationWeek IT Strategy community will throw open its doors and invite the rest of the C-suite into the party, discussing how technology choices impact the marketing, finance, and other departments, and how those departments are changing the way IT decisions are made.

InformationWeek has started a weekly radio show, a Q&A and chat format to which E2 community members are accustomed, and we're delighted to invite you to join us on those shows featuring a wide range of top-notch guests. You can find the InformationWeek Radio agenda for the next several weeks here.

In the meantime, our longtime E2 colleague Sara Peters, former editor in chief of the site, has joined our sister site Dark Reading, where she'll be writing about and conducting radio and video interviews on the hottest information security topics. We look forward to having Sara drop in and join us here from time to time, as well.

This is an exciting new opportunity for all of us, and we're delighted to welcome you to the beginning of a new era for our beloved E2 community as we integrate with our colleagues and the community members at InformationWeek.

Now, let's get talking. Which IT Strategy topics matter most to you? Which challenges can we help you overcome, and which questions can we help you answer as you develop your own IT strategies? We're here for you.

Our InformationWeek Elite 100 issue -- our 26th ranking of technology innovators -- shines a spotlight on businesses that are succeeding because of their digital strategies. We take a close at look at the top five companies in this year's ranking and the eight winners of our Business Innovation awards, and we offer 20 great ideas that you can use in your company. We also provide a ranked list of our Elite 100 innovators. Read our InformationWeek Elite 100 issue today.

Susan Nunziata works closely with the site's content team and contributors to guide topics, direct strategies, and pursue new ideas, all in the interest of sharing practicable insights with our community. Nunziata was most recently Director of Editorial for ... View Full Bio

No, no typo. Susans are simply cool. :D And mine was never a typo, not even the first time. I just liked it better when I started playing with all the possibilities. :D I remember someone thought it was a typo and told me about it. :D How funny.

@Technocrati, @SusanF: How funny. I wish I could pretend that I was being clever with your name, Technocrati. Truth be told my fingers weren't keeping up with my brain, so you ended up being Technorati, though i do rather like that.

I guess the whole community here could really be called The Technorati, right?

BTW, I should explain the origins of snunyc: "Snu" was a nickname I have had since college. And although I'm now in the Bay Area, NYC will always have my heart, hence snuNYC.

It often gets misspelled as SunnyC, though, which I also rather like.

IT Department meetings do tend to be long on explanation and short on information you can take away. That's one of the reasons I like the E2 radio shows, they don't get too deep in the technology that you're lost if you are not already up to date on the subject but they don't just sit at the surface level chatting either.

Re: E2 meets Information Week
@SaneIT: Thanks! So glad to see you here as well. We're excited about the opportunities, given the breadth and depth of topics to be explored here at InformationWeek. And, Curt's already working with the IWK team on a series of radio shows, so we'll be bringing our IWK colleagues and a wider group of guests into the community through those as well.

Appreciate your support and looking forward to all the good things we can accomplish here together.

Band of Susans reforming here--looking for additional Susans from the IWK community to join our little group.

Delighted to see you here, and thank you for all the fun and informative conversations we've had at E2. While it's sad for us to leave that home, we're looking forward to many more here and excited to have the opporutnity to have a bigger community at IWK to invite to the party.

I have the suspicion that the party will go on all the weekend. :D We need more cake and tea.

I haven't spotted additional Susans for the Band yet. SueF is the only one next door. There is a Susan on EETimes. :D

@Susan: You're right, we need more Susans.

:D

Our dev team is working on the content migration, will take a bit of time given the different platforms, tagging, and general setup of the two sites. Meanwhile, the content will continue to hang out on E2, so nothing will disappear, it will just be really quiet over there for awhile and all our new things will be happening here.

How is this KPCB Presentation for a Start?
Susan,

How does this very-very fascinating Presentation from KPCB[On the Internet Trends 2014 from Kleiner perkins caufield byers] do for a start?

http://www.slideshare.net/kleinerperkins/internet-trends-2014-05-28-14-pdf

There is no doubt that the Internet is changing today.Often in ways,we can't even think/imagine today.

At the same time there are also a lot of Bubbles going in this space,Similar to 2001[I personally can't imagine paying 18 billion dollars for a trinket like Whatsapp!!!).

@Ashish: Excellent  material there. I'll take some time to go through all 164 (!) pages, that presentation is loaded with information.

There's definitely a frothy feeling here in the Bay Area for those of us who have lived thru the 2001 bubble. What surprises me is the basic lessons of that experience seem to have been lost on those who are making decisions now about where to invest. Most importantly: Invest in things that have some way to actually make revenue.

Ah well, everything old is new again.

Potential Topics
If you're asking for what we would like to see at our new home, here are some ideas...take 'em, leave 'em. I won't be insulted! Hope this of benefit

- comparative pieces which show the differences between verticals for use of IT, purposes, policies, etc., i.e., healthcare vs. financial services, government vs.everyone. Compare and contrast, and where are the benefits and the downsides. What can be learned, what will change, what will stay the same.

- a running  tab every 6 months on "new positions" -- jobs that didn't exist x years ago that exist now, and how they keeps changing. Ditto how current jobs have changed by technology. What positions are hot, which ones are not -- based on need and marketplace gyrations.

- case studies, perhaps turning some of those interviews into "how we did it" or "what we faced" and putting a company name on it, the challenges, and the outcomes. Include Best Practices

- startups on the cusp of breaking out that will impact parts of IT from Cloud to Security to UX, etc. CIOs making deals with startups, adapting new startup technologies, etc.

- "Out of the Box" -- a monthly example of "out of the box" thinking somewhere in IT -- anywhere in IT -- something someone did, or a team did, that was different, out of the norm. Did it work? Not work? Why? Can be exapanded to "out of the box" thinking in digital technology in general. Might be fruitful to future IT actions. Not as literate and wonderful as "Geekend," but along those lines.

@Gigi3: you're most welcome. I think we're finding the biggest challenge to be the sheer size of the site here versus e2. I feel a bit like I've moved from a small village where everybody knew me into a big bustling city where there's lots of new faces.

Easiest way to find us is to search for Nunziata, Wagner & Franklin in the search box in upper right, and you'll be able to see our most recent posts and find others in the community there.

We also encourage you to visit and get to know some of our other colleagues on the pages here--there's lots of good information and if you see something you especially like, please let us know!

Re: Welcome To Our E2 Community
Hey, that's me! Always good to be welcomed somewhere. I think it counts as thanks, which as Dave explains in his post about Pizza, is very important to have once in a while. I didn't really share my thoughts on E2's closing over there too much, but it does feel like the end of an era. I can't really put a number on just how much I learned over there, and how much I felt like I was tapping into a source of limitless IT knowledge and experience. I was there since the day E2 opened, and it certainly does feel like four years have gone by in the blink of an eye... but looking back on how much I've learned, that number suddenly sounds a little more realistic.

That mix of nuts-and-bolts technology info and management/big-picture lessons is hard to come by on the blogosphere, and it was great feeling like I could learn about what a new technology was, and then how to use it (from a management perspective) in the same day. To that end, I personally would love to see you guys keep up a little of the hardware info here on IW. I'm a hardware/gadget guy myself, and you're much more likely to find me breaking a perfectly good server than reading a white paper. Strategy and inter-office politics are important themselves (and indeed, they may be what people like me need to learn about the most), but I'd love to see a good mix going forward. I'll see you guys around!

@Nomil--It's so good to see you here! Sorry it took me forever to respond...it is a little confusing, InformationWeek is a much bigger place than E2, so finding us is a bit more of a challenge

You can always use the search box at the upper right (next to the logo) to see what's been written by Nunziata, Wagner & Franklin (kind of sounds like a law firm, doesn't it?).

We're still getting accustomed to things, and hope to have other options for helping you to find us.

@STephenJ4: Nope, it looks like you're all set up with your InformationWeek login, so you can keep on posting using this login. Though we are all sharing our E2 names just so we know who is who--did you have a different name you used at E2? BTW, as you can see, mine has changed too, Susan Nunziata is snunyc here.

@Nomil: So glad you were able to find a name that's close to your E2 name--some of the functionality is a bit different here in terms of setting up your profile, so let us know if you have any questions about loading your image, etc.

We're still getting settled in so we hope to have more to share in the weeks and months ahead. Meanwhile, I encourage you to check out some of the work of our colleagues as well as the E2 crew on the informationweek pages. I trust you'll find a lot of valuable info throughout the site.

@Susan thanks for an EARLY reply :). I am glad that I know few people who are helping me getting settled. Its quite difficult to find things here as compared to E2 but I hope that I will get accustomed to it soon.

@nomii, I agree with you. Things are bit different compared to E2 but I am sure we will get accustomed to this new website soon. What I like about this website is its brighter and content is very well organized.

Thanks sunita for agreeing :). I am not sure whether we have to write only on strategic cio or all other sites. A big question indeed.

@Susan, when I registered to the website I was already assigned username. Can I change this username to make it same as that of EE ?

Re: action list
@Sunita: Yes, if you log into your InformationWeek account, you'll see at the very top left of the screen, above the logo, a Welcome and next to it a clickable link that says Profile. click on Profile. You should see a screen that comes up with your pic and other details. on the right of that box, the fourth clickable link is "profile update."

Click on that and it will give you the option to change all your profile details, including your username.

I hope this helps!!

@artemus: Thank you so much for your kind words and all your support for E2. You will have to visit Tech Page One directly to sign up there, as we will not be managing those subscriptions.
