Zyxel Pushes Home Automation Apps

Thanks to Zyxel, communications carriers may soon offer you more apps to control home technology like energy meters and surveillance cameras.
To make its communications equipment market more attractive to carriers, Zyxel introduced at CES a series of consumer-oriented home automation products. Carriers can push, or provide in menu-like fashion, these Java-based apps (based on the OSGI development standard) to their subscribers.

Zyxel demonstrated some of those apps in the video below, including a Z-Wave-enabled wireless router (Z-Wave is a home automation wireless network technology, like ZigBee) that lets users monitor and control appliances, a home monitoring system using a surveillance camera (which can be remotely accessed), and meters for measuring energy use of various appliances
