Travel Lighter: WorldCard Mobile
Business cards seem like a relic of another time, don't they? You used to have a Rolodex or card file full of them. Now you store your contact info on your computer and/or iPhone, but every time you meet someone you still exchange cards.
WorldCard Mobile offers a way to get that information into your phone, letting you avoid adding to the pile of uncategorized and largely unusable business cards languishing in your desk drawer.
WorldCard makes a desktop business card scanner and application for reading business cards into your computer, and WorldCard Mobile uses the iPhone's camera to put the same functionality in the palm of your hand. Take a picture of a business card, and the app reads the text and sorts it into the proper fields. You can edit the information and even supplement it with a photo of the person, after which the data is transferred to the address book on the phone. The basic version ($9.99) recognizes English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch. Other versions, at $19.99 each, recognize tougher languages like Japanese, Chinese, or Korean.
