Walking the Walk

Like many of you, I subscribe to feeds from some of my favorite blogs and industry news sites and use a feed reader to scan what's happening and stay informed. For a few years I've also been using Google alerts to track specific company announcements and news coverage and those work well too. But in my ongoing effort to thin down my increasingly bloated email inbox and get one easy-to-read view of the technology industry, I've been moving away from Google alerts and instead using feeds to manage and track companies, specifically those in the "Enterprise 2.0" market. In my attempt to find news feeds from many of the "2.0" companies I follow, I'm shocked to see how many of them don't have them. Most of the companies make their releases and news coverage available on-line or via email which works well for many people. But if I'm a company selling products or services wouldn't I want to make key updates and announcements available to customers, partners and the media via feeds as well? Seems like a no-brainer to me. Nearly half of the company sites I visited had no sign of feeds, some of which profess the value of RSS right there on their site. Is there some reason why these companies wouldn't want to present information this way or is this just a case of companies who talk the talk but don't walk the walk? Let me know what you think.
