Collaboration And Messaging Application
Bynari has introduced an enhanced version of its TradeXCH client software application. TradeXCH (pronounced "Trade Exchange") provides collaboration, messaging, and calendar-management functionality similar to Microsoft Outlook for Unix and Linux-based workstations and desktop systems. With TradeXCH, customers can send and receive E-mail and manage multiple E-mail accounts in a single mailbox, establish sophisticated filtering rules for incoming E-mail, track and share business contacts utilizing robust contact-management tools, share files and folders with colleagues, maintain multiple address books, share calendars and automatically request or schedule meetings, and track action items on a built-in to-do list. TradeXCH supports a number of messaging protocols, allowing a wide range of platforms to work together and supporting open communications across the enterprise. The new release enhances the graphical user interface and adds a number of features that improve ease of use and user productivity. New features include robust message-search capabilities, with simple or Boolean filtering on multiple message fields or keywords; enhanced message management, including request reply date, message expiration date, and message sensitivity/security classification; and enhanced message-filtering rules with filtering on multiple message fields. Additionally, the Bynari server component, which allows integration and collaboration with Microsoft Outlook clients, has been enhanced to run as a Windows NT operating system service. The improved server installation tools and new automatic MAPI profile-generation capability simplify the system administration task. TradeXCH is immediately available for desktops/workstations running X86 processor versions of Linux, and it will be available soon for Solaris Sparc, Solaris X86, HP-UX, and SCO UnixWare 7.1.

Back to the top of the pageSeagate Technology has unveiled the Barracuda 180, the world's first disc drive to store 180 Gbytes, the largest single-drive capacity in the world. It can store the equivalent of a stack of text documents that's virtually three times the height of the Empire State Building. The Barracuda 180 satisfies the requirements of large critical storage applications such as data warehousing, E-commerce, data mining, and audio/video. The Barracuda 180 also delivers a record low cost per gigabyte. The Barracuda 180 has idle power consumption of less than 10.3 watts and an acoustic rating of 3.7 decibels. Additionally, Seagate is introducing its Rotational Vibration Protection System, which monitors drive movement in relation to the cabinet or the drive-mounting system and provides feedback to the drive's servo system, reducing positioning errors resulting from rotational vibration within the cabinet or mounting system. The Barracuda 180 spins at 7,200 RPM, has a formatted data transfer rate of up to 47 Mbytes per second, and will be available in the industry-standard Ultra160 SCSI interface. For A/V-specific work, a 16-Mbyte V-code cache option will be offered. The Barracuda 180, which includes a full five-year warranty, will ship during the first quarter of next year. Price: $2,195.

Integrate E-Commerce Apps With Back-End Data Systems
Cerebellum Software has introduced Cerebellum eCom Integrator version 2.1, which speeds the development of E-commerce applications by generating data persistence between Enterprise JavaBean component technology and underlying data. Cerebellum eCom Integrator provides a productive, visual environment for integrating an E-commerce application with back-end data systems, and its features improve the long-term portability of the application to different data sources in the future. Cerebellum eCom Integrator lets customers leverage their existing data systems to develop cutting-edge E-commerce applications. Using the product's graphical interface, developers easily generate a persistence layer between EJB entity bean components and relational, legacy, and enterprise resource planning data sources. As a result, Cerebellum eCom Integrator dramatically extends the mapping capabilities offered by EJB application servers without requiring additional programming work. To further improve productivity in E-commerce development, Cerebellum eCom Integrator supports the import of business object models based on the Unified Modeling Language from tools such as Rational Rose. This feature allows simple point-and-click generation and deployment of EJB entity beans.

Share Information Over The Net Securely
Cyber-Ark Software has debuted PrivateArk, a system for securing and sharing information over the Internet. While existing security systems attempt to secure the whole enterprise and the myriad devices that comprise it, the PrivateArk Network Vault secures critical data; it allows sensitive materials to be stored and shared by a department, a workgroup, telecommuters, and external partners, balancing the need for security with the reality of data sharing. PrivateArk is ideally suited to a wide range of applications requiring shareable yet safe data, including those in the medical, financial services, entertainment, manufacturing, and government markets. Cyber-Ark's proactive security efforts are focused on the Network Vault. The Vault is a dedicated server protected by eight layers of proprietary security technology, including virtual private network, firewall, file access control, encryption, authentication, and innovative Cyber-Ark security technology. The PrivateArk Network Vault can securely store and protect files, file servers, passwords and database objects in two ways: The owner of the information can store the object in its entirety in the Vault or store the keys to the object in the Vault. For example, an R&D manager can store classified blueprints or other sensitive plans directly in the PrivateArk Network Vault to ensure only designated users can view and amend the plans. Alternatively, a human-resources department could protect a single field within a database--one that details employee salary information, for instance--by locking it and storing the key within the Vault. Anyone requesting the key to that field would need to traverse the Vault to obtain it and view the data. The PrivateArk server runs on Windows 2000 and Windows NT; the client runs on all Windows environments and as a Web client. It's available now directly from Cyber-Ark. Price: Starts at $20,000.
