DB2 Enterprise Server Performance With POWER5+ and AIX 5L Multipage Support

Source: IBM
Date: January 2008
Type: White Paper
Rating: (0)

Overview: With the introduction of the POWER5+ processor architecture, the AIX 5L operating system added support for a new 64-kilobyte page with properties that are similar to the current 4-kilobyte pages. DB2, V9 automatically exploits the 64-kilobyte pages to deliver superior performance for database applications on this platform. In addition, DB2 also supports the enablement of 16-gigabyte huge pages. The paper published by IBM talks about the IBM DB2, Version 9 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows exploitation of multiple page sizes and also shares some performance results, as measured internally on IBM POWER5+ processor-based systems running the IBM AIX 5L OS.
