Overview: Firewalls may protect a person, but nowadays sophisticated viruses and Trojans may attack the person from inside, catching him/her unaware. Exchange 2003 when installed on Windows 2003 is secure by default. However, Exchange 2000 and 2003 on Windows 2000 are not very secure because IIS 5, the Windows 2000 built-in web server installed installs some components that are not required for Exchange and can be exploited by hackers. This paper published by IIS explains how to secure Windows 2000 IIS for Exchange 2000/3 installations.
