Avenue to VB: Migrating a Geological Database to ArcGIS

Date: January 2008
Type: White Paper
Rating: (0)

Overview: Gulf Basin Depositional Synthesis Project (GBDS) began in 1995, and created a GIS database in ArcInfo coverage format. The GDBS provide a comprehensive synthesis and interpretation of basin scale sedimentation patterns and history as a tool for oil and gas exploration in the Gulf of Mexico. This paper describes insights gained through code migration from Avenue to Visual Basic for the GDBS project. It also addresses those challenges and presents insights gained from implementing solutions to those challenges. The GBDS database is driven by onshore and offshore well data along the margin of the Gulf of Mexico.
