Overview: In a time of shrinking revenues, few cost savings can match the deferral of data center expansion. Oddly, many enterprises have failed to optimize the management of the raised data center floor – a practice that requires visualization, monitoring, optimization, and modeling in order to make the best use of space, power, and cooling while also enhancing availability and service levels. One could almost (but not quite) understand this neglect during periods of rapid revenue growth. However, to address the current economic crisis, enterprises need tools that extend the life of their data centers and reduce power consumption.

This white paper examines the areas of data center operation that are creating the greatest concern for today’s organizations and how data center management solutions can provide serious relief for these issues. Data center power consumption and space utilization issues can be managed and resolved using a combination of best practices and the right tools to visualize, monitor, model and optimize all of these assets. This paper provides the roadmap for reducing power, conserving space and building a better data center for the future.
