Overview: This paper explores the specific challenges faced by architects, developers and testers working in a multicore environment, with specific attention paid to device driver and BIOS issues that now affect uniprocessor devices as much as they affect multiprocessor devices. Many of the points in this paper are presented from a uniprocessor computing perspective, as developers in this domain may have less experience working with multiprocessor systems. However, these technological issues are necessarily applicable to multiprocessor systems as well.
