Overview: The School District of Philadelphia - the seventh largest school district in the United States comprised of more than 200,000 students. The companys challenge was to improve the quality of education provided to its large and diverse student base through the use of standardized electronic curriculum and assessment in all of its schools. They deployed a Nortel Optical Ethernet solution, utilizing gigabit Ethernet capabilities on the Nortel Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 and Ethernet over SONET through Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) on an Optical Metro 3500 next-generation SONET platform.
