Effectiveness of Loss Labeling in Improving TCP Performance in Wired/Wireless Networks

Date: January 2008
Type: White Paper
Rating: (1)

Overview: The Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) has been the dominant transport mechanism for reliable data transfer over the Internet. In this paper the researchers study the fundamental gains and limits of explicit loss labeling techniques employed to empower TCP in hybrid wired/wireless networks. The filter is re-instantiated to measure RTT and augment it with history information so as to distinguish between congestion and wireless losses, specifically to empower TCP NewReno in wired/wireless networks.
