Overview: The New York City public school system is the largest in the country, with over one million students taught by 75,200 teachers in 1,145 public schools. The ATS project focused on enabling the standardization and automation of data collection and reporting throughout the school district, providing school office personnel with access through leased lines to a centralized mainframe computer network. ATS facilitated key administrative functions, such as attendance tracking, student grade reports, and financial and budgetary applications. The Cisco 2612 router provides both routing and bridging functionality. This model also delivers IBM’s System Network Architecture (SNA) access to classrooms.
